“When I started reading this book, I felt like I had stumbled upon an intriguing radio show of expert panelists. These coaches were freely sharing their professional and personal stories just to help me navigate my life. I recommend this book not only as a personal resource but as a quick professional resource for any coach or caregiver who wants to teach their clients how to move through life's obstacles.”

“Changes of the Heart begins with a financial assessment (Read: You are Here) takes us through mothering, weight loss, how to finally write that book, crisis as opportunity, conflict at home and work, and how the brain grieves. Lastly it takes us out on a pure joy ride astride a motorcycle named Lucy - who true to her name enlightens us. Great Book!, November 18, 2009
By

This is a great book, very well written and easy to read and follow. It offers simple yet very helpful and powerful steps on a variety of life challenges. Reading this book made me feel good about myself and helped me redefine and clarify my decision-making process. I think the fact that each chapter in this book is written by a different life coach who has expertise in a particular field makes it so great and unique. Following easy steps and advice from this book made me a happier person and took off a considerable amount of stress in my life. It is amazing how reading one book can change a person so much! I highly recommend it!
Grief Relief, December 16, 2009

"Our Brain When We Grieve," the chapter by Polly O'Connor, is outstanding.
My mother recently passed away and my grief at times has felt overwhelming.
In her chapter, the author explains scientific material on how our brain experiences
loss in easy to read and understand terms. Her "assignments" to help the pain
of loss are caring and creative. I used several to help me deal with not only my
mother's passing but again when a close friend recently died. While I am still
a neophyte at learning how to focus less on sorrow and more on joyful memories,
thanks to "Our Brain When We Grieve," I am coping better than I expected.
Polly O'Connor's writing style is clear and succinct. Her compassion is conveyed
on every page. Other chapters I found helpful in Changes of the Heart include
"You've Just Been Elected to the Board" and "Ending the War at Work."
You'll be making the right choice when you buy this book!
fantastic simple strategies for overcoming life challenges, December 2, 2009

there are so many books on the self-help market that focus on promoting the writer through giving guidance ranging from obvious to bogus to plain boring - as opposed to actually offering helpful practical advice. this one is NOT one of those. very well written by people who obviously care about others, the book does not 'lecture' you but is full of simple and clear down-to-earth pragmatic strategies of facing both every day dilemmas as well as more challenging situations (from losing weight and getting along with colleagues at work - to child rearing and pursuing your life passions). people who wrote this book are not in love with themselves - they are in love with you and their passion is to help you do and be better. reading this books is like talking to a best friend - the authors know you darn well and their advice is spot on. a fantastic read - and a great positive holiday gift.

Grateful for Gratitude, January 6, 2010

My favorite chapter of this book is the one by Roma Strong Zanders, called "Living in Gratitude." I can never get enough reminders to do just that. This book was clearly assembled with great care. The depth and diversity of the wisdom is stunning. It was obvious to me that the writers have a genuine desire to help, and for that, I am grateful!
Beautiful Book, February 23, 2010

It is quite rarely we call books beautiful, but "Changes of the heart" indeed is a great work of amazing talented people who had a power to get together and create the book which can answer to so many different questions for different stages of life. Almost encyclopedia for life, it can be helpful when you need to loose weight, have questions how to raise a challenging child, making difficult choices or need to renew your energy. It is all in one book. I own the copy and looking forward to give it as gift to my friends and family.
Diverse Insights Into Coaching, December 13, 2009

Changes of the Heart seems to be a collection of articles written by coaches trained by Martha Beck. These anthologies usually serve to help introduce the participants to prospective clients. They usually tend to be read in the context of a presentation by one of the participants.
Therefore, it's hard to know how to review this book, because the audience is not clear. Each coach shows how she would handle a specific type of challenge. Some of the coaches seem very effective, but I get the feeling that they would be a lot more effective in live sessions. It's hard to convey the interactions between coach and client, i.e., the questions and challenges.
Interestingly, the coaches seemed to frame their recommendations more from Byron Katie than from Martha Beck. They report encouraging clients to review Byron's four famous questions.
Ideally, this book will be helpful for the coaches when they make presentations to promote themselves and their practices. For a broader audience, it would have been helpful to organize the articles by type of challenge. The coaches cover a very wide range of issues - all the way from parenting to weight loss to life transitions. It's rare to find a reader who would relate to every chapter.

My wife and I were in the process of buying a summer home and were considering an option to buy a mobile home. We couldn't quite figure out whether to buy it or not so we used a chapter in the book "Practical Guide to making choices" by Alina Bas and went through the exercise and then it became really clear to us that we do not want to buy that specific house. This book let us see our assumptions, commitments and desires clearly and put us on the same page. Later on we got a much better deal which saved us tens of thousands of dollars!
This book is an amazing tool!

I've read "Changes of the Heart" from cover to cover and I have found so much that is life-affirming, reassuring and helpful even in topics that don't directly relate to my current situation.
